LANGLEY, B.C. – For a second-straight night, the MacEwan Griffins women's volleyball team was swept in straight sets to the U SPORTS' top-ranked team, the Trinity Western Spartans.
This time the damage was 25-16, 25-15, 25-13 in a match that was over quickly.
"We were a little bit better (than Friday) and they were a whole lot better," said MacEwan head coach Ken Briggs. "They showed why they're No. 1. They just took it to us."
Hilary Howe once again led the way for the Spartans, earning a match-high seven serving aces and 13 kills while hitting .429. TWU Setter Dora Komlodi (Calgary) had a match high 22 assists in the TWU win.
MacEwan's attack was led by Hailey Cornelis, who contributed eight kills while hitting .190.
While, the Spartans hit .403 as a team with only 10 errors on 72 attacks, the Griffins struggled with .088 efficiency in the game.
"Just too many mistakes and too many errors under pressure," said Briggs. "We were under pressure the whole time.
"It was sad. It reminded me of about three years ago when we played these guys. They're just smooth right now and they're playing really good at home. I didn't expect big things, but I expected a little more fight, so that's the disappointing part. It's the third week of the season. We've got lots of things to work on."
TWU improved to 6-0 on the season, while MacEwan drops to 2-4 with the loss.
MacEwan next visits Calgary on Nov. 8-9.
