New recruit Glasgow gives Griffins welcome size for 2022-23 Canada West season

EDMONTON – The kind of size in the post the elite Canada West teams have allows them to dominate the paint, fill the scoresheet with rebounds and open up defences for their outside shooters.
The MacEwan Griffins know to compete against the big dogs, they need more of that themselves, and, to that end, head coach Mike Connolly landed a big piece to the puzzle with his latest recruit announcement.
Strathcona high school's 6-foot-8 post Cornelius Glasgow will join the Griffins for the 2022-23 Canada West season, the head coach announced Monday.
"I love his size. He's 6-8, but he is athletic," said Connolly of Glasgow, who is already 230 pounds and dominating the local high school circuit in Grade 12. "People don't realize when you look at him, but he's deceptively athletic.
"I'm just looking at him going 'I think he's a steal.' I think he's a very good post player that not a lot of coaches went after. He's a local kid from Scona, he's got a big body, I think he has a great potential in U SPORTS. I think he's going to be good down the road.
"He's got the size, the athleticism, the work ethic and I really think he's going to be a success in the future."
Glasgow notes his game has a strong offensive bent to it, but that doesn't mean he ignores the defensive end of the floor – a strong requirement to play for Connolly.
"I'd say I'm definitely more offence, but I can definitely rebound the ball," he said. "I try to keep it balanced, but offence is my strong suit.
"I'm really excited to come here, can't wait to be with the guys," he added. "It should be good."
Connolly definitely sees the potential.
"He's physical," said the coach. "He's going to be very good at the Canada West level. We've got to work with him, we've got get him in shape.
"I think he'll be a double-double guy for us," he said. "He can get us 15 points, 10 rebounds a game."
