EDMONTON – Looking to add more scoring to the mix for next season, the Griffins women's basketball team kicked off its 2025-26 recruiting class by addressing that need.
Head coach Katherine Adams announced dynamic guard Anita Tavaszi out of Heritage Woods Secondary in Port Moody, B.C. will join the Griffins.
"She's a scorer," said Adams. "We're really excited about her versatility and ability to shoot the basketball. She can both score and distribute well. With her length and athleticism, she will fit in well with our play style."
The 5-foot-7 Coquitlam, B.C. native – a product of AthElite Basketball Academy – has demonstrated she has the ability to play both shooting guard and at the point.
"Her ability to shoot the basketball caught our attention," said Adams. "And also her length. She's played at a high level with both her club experience and high school basketball in the lower mainland.
"I think with her level of previous competition she's going to be prepared to come in and compete right away and make a contribution."
Tavaszi is the first of four new recruits the Griffins are adding to a young roster.
"Being a pretty young team and not losing anyone from our roster last year, we were pretty deliberate and intentional about the gaps we needed to fill," said Adams. "We're really excited about the group we have coming in to help us grow and take that next step forward."
Stay tuned for announcements on the rest of the class soon.
