EDMONTON – After excelling in the BCHL over the last three seasons, Sherwood Park's Colin Reay will be returning home to launch a promising U SPORTS career at MacEwan.
Reay is set to bolster the Griffins' goaltending position, starting with his rookie season in 2026-27.
Currently backstopping BCHL Coastal East Division leader Prince George in a playoff series against Langley, Reay has all the tools to succeed with the Griffins.
"His compete level and composure," said Griffins head coach Zack Dailey on what stands out about Reay. "Just talking with him, he's a really fantastic kid – someone that (Griffins goaltending coach Kurtis) Mucha has worked with for a long time. He knows his character and work ethic, so that was a big thing reaching out to him.
"Obviously, he's a Sherwood Park kid, so he's close to home and will be able to play in front of friends and family. We're just looking to create competition. We're very confident with our guys returning. He's just going to create competition and help our team in the long run with good goaltending."
Reay posted a 3.04 GAA and .905 save percentage in 29 regular season games for the Spruce Kings in 2025-26, and is currently rocking a .931% - fourth in the BCHL - in two playoff contests.
He also had a .931 save percentage in three games with Prince George in 2024-25 after being dealt to the Spruce Kings in a midseason trade from Vernon, his home for a season and a half. All total, he recorded a 2.91 GAA and .911 save percentage in 63 career BCHL regular season games.

Reay previously also spent a season in the AJHL, kicking off his junior career with the Drayton Valley Thunder in 2022-23.
Dailey's longtime goaltending coach Mucha – who is also in the same role with the Edmonton Oil Kings – has coached the 5-foot-11 Reay for years, including in two seasons with OHA Edmonton (2019-20 and 2020-21).
"He's not a huge goalie, but he competes hard, is technically sound and competes well is what Mucha told me," said Dailey. "He has the character and work ethic that he wants to be the guy. Anytime you have three people that want to be the guy, the competition's going to be high and there are going to be great performances out of that."
That's what the Griffins will be relying on to create the ultimate competition for starts in 2026-27 as they look to improve upon an .874 save percentage last season – their lowest since entering Canada West in 2021.
"The expectation is he's going to come in and help us win games right away," said Dailey. "That's what we want is someone who can help us win and we feel we have three guys who can help us do that when they're at their best, so what that's going to do is just force people to be at their best."
