EDMONTON – Aiming to beef up their offensive attack after scoring just 13 goals in 14 games last season, the Griffins men's soccer team has added a player who can help with just that.
Saskatoon striker Zachary Kim is the first announcement in head coach Adam Loga's 2026-27 recruiting class.
"He's a goal scorer, for sure," said Loga. "It's one of those things where you don't necessarily notice him due to one specific attribute, but you notice him because he ends up sliding a goal home.
"He's very cerebral, just finds his spaces and gets on the ends of things. We need to bolster our attack, so we're hoping to add some depth there."
The 5-foot-9 Holy Cross product was the leading scorer for Team Saskatchewan at the 2025 Canada Summer Games after scoring a natural hat trick in a consolation match vs. Manitoba.
Kim was named midfielder MVP of the FTF Saskatchewan Combine and helped his high school win three-straight provincial championships. He's a product of the Saskatchewan Excellence program.
Loga first had Kim under his tutelage at a week-long Vancouver Whitecaps evaluation camp a year ago and brought him out to train with Edmonton Scottish's League 1 team last summer.
"They identified players coast to coast, and he was one of them," said Loga. "I worked with him for a week over in Vancouver and as the week went on, he got better. He's just a great kid, very professional. I got to know him a little bit more, got to know about his academics and his studies."
An honours student, he fits the mold at the full holistic student-athlete the Griffins are trying to bring into the program. He is set to enter MacEwan's School of Business.
