EDMONTON – Size inside is essential for success at the Canada West men's basketball level and the latest announcement in David Kapinga's 2025 recruiting class checks in at 6-foot-8.
Quinn Boyington, coming off an MVP season with the Jasper Place Rebels, will kick off a promising U SPORTS career with his hometown MacEwan Griffins in 2025-26.
"Quinn is a fearless competitor and is non-stop," said MacEwan head coach David Kapinga. "I really want to bring him in and see where we can put him because right now he's a little bit raw. He picks things up well, so I think with the coaches helping him out and his IQ he can become one of the best players in Canada West and a very impactful player for us at MacEwan, hopefully in the next year or two."
Besides his play for the Rebels in 2024-25, Boyington – a product of the Nexgen Basketball club – also garnered an all-star award at the Stingers high school all-star tournament.
He will bring a presence inside for the Griffins on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
"Great around the rim finishing, blocking shots, changing shots around the rim," said Kapinga. "When he gets the ball, he finishes, and he finishes with authority."
Kapinga also hints at his ability to play D further out from the hoop as well, which would add to the versatility of his lineup.
"He can guard the guards more than people believe," he said. "He can hold his own defensively against the smaller guys also."
