Three Stars: Chabot, Buys, Osuma earn honours
MacEwan Athletics
EDMONTON – Men's hockey student-athlete Kadyn Chabot is the MacEwan Athletics' first star of the week after recording five points and becoming the program's single Canada West season goals leader during the Griffins' weekend sweep over Trinity Western
Chabot broke the record he shared with Ethan Strang by scoring his 13th of the season early in Friday's 7-4 victory and ran his season total up to 15 with a three-goal weekend.
Women's volleyball middle blocker Anika Buys and men's basketball forward Dami Osuma are the second and third stars, respectively
It's the third appearance of the season in the Three Stars for Chabot, after he was previously named first star on Nov. 12 and second star on Nov. 18.
Both Buys and Osuma are appearing for the first time in 2025-26.

After another spectacular scoring weekend, Chabot etched his name in the record books, passing former teammate Ethan Strang for the most goals by a Griffin in a Canada West season.
He needed 13 to do that, which he accomplished with his goal in Friday's 7-4 victory over Trinity Western. Chabot also added two assists in the contest.

Then, he went and scored twice more on Saturday to pace the Griffins to a 6-3 triumph.
That gives him 15 on the season, which is second in Canada West to Saskatchewan's Chantz Petruic (16). He's also tied for third in the conference in points with 26, which is just one back of Strang's program record for the most by a Griffin in a Canada West season.
The scary thing is the Griffins still have eight regular season games left.
They're on a bye week before returning to action vs. Manitoba Jan. 23-24.
Anika Buys finished with 18 kills and 16 blocks in a two-game series at Winnipeg (David Larkins photo).
2nd STAR: Anika Buys, MB, women's volleyball
Niverville, MB, second-year, Design Studies
Buys always seems to play well in her home province as she had a dominating performance in the middle for the Griffins during a weekend series at Winnipeg.
Buys finished with 17 kills and 16 blocks, accounting for 27.0 points in MacEwan's split with the Wesmen.
In Friday's 3-2 loss, Buys had nine kills on a .389 hitting percentage, adding nine blocks and accounting for 14.0 points. The nine blocks is a new career high for her and is tied for the seventh most by a Griffin in a Canada West match.

Her performance in Saturday's 3-0 victory was maybe even more impressive because in just three sets Buys had eight kills on a .583 efficiency and seven blocks, accounting for 13.0 points.
Buys is now the Canada West leader in blocks with 63 and is second in blocks/set (1.29). She's on pace for the second-best blocking season by a Griffin in Canada West behind only Dakota Wilson, who averaged 1.41 blocks/set in 2014-15.
Buys and the Griffins hit the road again this weekend, visiting UBC on Friday (6:30 p.m. MT) and Saturday (5 p.m. MT, both Canada West TV).
Dami Osuma was a force at both ends of the floor for the Griffins at the University of Lethbridge (Cameron Yoos photo).
3rd STAR: Dami Osuma, F, men's basketball
Calgary, AB, fifth-year, Science
The 6-foot-7 big man came up huge for the Griffins as they gave Lethbridge all they could handle in their first weekend series of 2026.
Osuma played over 20 minutes during both games in a weekend for the first time this season as he made a big difference for the Griffins on both ends of the floor.
In Friday's 97-82 loss, Osuma recorded nine points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in 21 minutes on the court.

In Saturday's 67-64 defeat, he was a force, narrowly missing a double double with nine points, 12 rebounds and two blocks.
For the season, Osuma is tied for fourth on the Griffins with a 6.8 points/game average, is second in rebounds (5.1) and tied for first in blocks (0.3).
The Griffins are back at home this weekend as they host Calgary on Friday (1:30 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m., both David Atkinson Gym, Canada West TV).
