BRANDON, Man. – You half expected to see the ball catching fire – a la NBA Jam – as it left the fingers of the Brandon Bobcats players on Friday night.
So hot was the home side that they shot 15-of-26 (57.7%) from beyond the arc in a 108-91 win over the MacEwan Griffins women's basketball team.
Go figure, the Griffins shoot the lights out themselves in their strongest offensive performance of the season and they simultaneously allow the most points against, too.
"It was certainly frustrating that it seemed we just couldn't keep the ball in front of us," said Griffins head coach Katherine Adams. "They capitalized on every little error and at the end of the day, they just hit some tough shots. It's wildly impressive to shoot 57.7 per cent from the three-point line. It's unheard of. So, you look at that and, man, how often is that ever going to happen in a game? We're never going to see that again this year and we haven't seen it yet this year.
"The fact is they shot that way and we need to be able to adjust and adapt and take away what's working. We just didn't have the ability to do that tonight."
Brandon got a game-high 32 points from Piper Ingalis, while Macaya Copeland put up 20, Ella Averill bucketed 14 and Madison Schettler dropped in 10 off the bench.

MacEwan's Unity Obasuyi also didn't miss much in the contest, recording her third game of the season with 30+ points by scoring 30 on the nose off 11-for-22 shooting from the field.
"Today's game was an interesting one where it felt like both teams could kind of score at will," said Adams. "It was Unity doing Unity things, for sure. She went 11-for-22, shooting 50 per cent from the field, which is wildly impressive. She had the opportunity to do so and capitalized on it. It was impressive."
Samantha Hickey recorded a double double (14 points, 10 rebounds), along with five assists and two more blocks to add to her Canada West lead. Ayla Grady also had 14 points, while Sofia Makinen chipped in 12.
"Sam again with a double double, which is good for her to continue the offensive role she's taken on for us this year," said Adams. "I thought Ayla stepped up and played really well for us – 4-for-6 from the field for 14 points and five assists. That's pretty impressive for the contributions she's able to make on the floor as well."
MacEwan is now 0-17 and will try again for their first win of the season in Saturday's rematch (4 p.m. MT, Canada West TV).
