EDMONTON – For the second time this season, the Griffins are celebrating a Canada West BioSteel men's hockey player of the week honour.
The conference announced Kadyn Chabot as this week's winner, following his hat trick and four-point night vs. UBC on Friday.
That follows Dwayne Jean Jr. earning the player of the week on Oct. 28.
The Griffins have also won the honour four times previously to 2025-26.
It's also the first time in MacEwan history that two Griffins athletes from difference sports have won it in the same week, as Unity Obasuyi also earned the women's basketball nod.
Chabot became the third Griffins to score three goals in a Canada West game and also tied a program single game record with four points when he led MacEwan to a 5-4 overtime win over UBC that snapped the red-hot Thunderbirds' nine-game winning streak.
"He's someone who works and cares about being good and getting better, so you can see his growth since he's gotten here," said Griffins head coach Zack Dailey. "He's trying to establish himself as one of the top offensive players in the league and I think he's on his way.
"It's always impressive doing it against great teams, but I've seen it enough where I'm not surprised. We track scoring chances and it doesn't matter who we're playing against he's always creating scoring chances. Those don't always go in, so it's great to see him get a hat trick there.
"In terms of his offensive game, he's shown he can do it against anybody in this league."

With that big game, Chabot has already matched his goals total from the entire 2024-25 season (9) and is tied for first in Canada West in goals.
"He's been really, really good for us this season," said Dailey. "He's someone who's always been an offensive player who has put up points and created offensively. The challenge from me this year was to round out the game and most of it was effort based because at times he was really good. I think this year he's been good every game. He's been our best, or one of our best players, every single night.
"I've been really impressed with his overall game. Offensively, he's always been gifted. Now, he's on the PK, he's out last minute, so he's really turned himself into an all-around great player for us."
The Griffins will host Saskatchewan this weekend on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (5 p.m., both Downtown Community Arena, Canada West TV).
