Griffins blanked 5-0 by Spartans in weekend opener

LANGLEY, B.C. – Fifth-year goalie Kate Fawcett made 29 saves to earn a shutout and blank the visiting MacEwan Griffins 5-0 on Friday afternoon.
The win improves the No. 10 Spartans to 5-2 on the season, while the loss drops the Griffins to 0-6-0-1.
Scoring for the Spartans were fifth-year forward Kyra McDonald with two, second-year blueliner Chayc Kullman, rookie forward Keelyn Pisani and fifth-year forward Kailey Ledoux.
MacEwan's Taya Currie made 25 saves in the Griffins' loss.
MacEwan got their fair share of shots, led by Karington Mollin, who put seven on Fawcett, tying her for the second-most ever by a Griffin in a Canada West game.
The Griffins will be back in action on Saturday, aiming for a better result (4 p.m. MT, Canada West TV).
