EDMONTON – Finishing as the third-leading scorer on the North Shore Warriors during their 2025-26 CSSHL season, Peyton Mages has the potential to make a big impact for the Griffins at the Canada West level.
The West St. Paul, Man. product is joining MacEwan in 2026-27 and brings a similar skill-set to previously announced recruit Tristan Todosichuk with a strong ability to crash the crease to create offence.
"She shares a number of similarities to Tristan, but of course has her own unique traits and provides a right-hand shot option for us up front," said Griffins head coach Chris Leeming. "She's got really good awareness and poise with the puck. She doesn't freeze up under pressure.
"Peyton was someone they wanted to have the puck on her stick on their powerplay this past year and was able to get pucks on net and create plays that led to high danger scoring chances.
"A lot of the goals she scored, too, she was net front on the powerplay. She's got a good set of hands in tight. She's another player that isn't scared to go to those areas and was rewarded for that willingness."
Mages recorded 10 goals and 26 points in 30 games for North Shore in 2025-26, adding an assist in three playoff games.
"Peyton brings a strong level of awareness and puck possession ability that complements her size and skating to allow her to create time and space to make plays," said Leeming of the 5-foot-8 forward.
"She's got a scoring touch around the net but also sees the ice pretty well and has a sneaky shot that she can get through traffic when she has the opportunity to use it."
Mages previously played CSSHL U18 for St. Mary's Academy in 2023-24 and 2024-25 before the program folded. She had 24 points in 56 games there.
"She has gone from Winnipeg to Vancouver and is going to find the middle ground in Edmonton for her new home next year," said Leeming.
"After getting to know her more, I was really impressed with how focused she is at getting better every day and her interest in our academic programs makes it a good fit as well."
