EDMONTON – Getting to the net front is often the best way to score at the Canada West level.
For the Griffins women's hockey team, that propensity is something they're always looking for as they aim to enhance their attack for the 2026-27 season.
Enter Tristan Todosichuk of the Weyburn Gold Wings.
The versatile player who can play all three forward positions will bring her game to the Griffins next season.
"Tristan is someone who consistently demonstrates competitiveness through her work ethic and physicality, is a strong skater and has a nose for the dirty areas of the ice, which is where the majority of her points came from," said Griffins head coach Chris Leeming.
"Paired with a strong positional awareness, her ability to make plays with pace, and the versatility to play all three forward positions, I believe her game will translate well to our level."
Todosichuk was an assistant captain in Weyburn in 2025-26, finishing with 10 goals and 20 points in 29 games, before adding two more points in three playoff games.
Current Griffins forward Ashton Bender, who is from Moosomin, Sask., also played for the Weyburn Gold Wings prior to coming to MacEwan.
Todosichuk, who is from Yorkton, Sask., also previously played two seasons in the SFMAAAHL for the Battlefords Sharks in 2023-24 and 2024-25.
"(Weyburn) was a little bit closer to home for her and she got an opportunity to step into a major role," said Leeming of her final U18 season. "All the goals she scored and points she put up were taking the puck to the net and being gritty at the net front. She doesn't shy away from that – second efforts, rebounds, tips, screens.
"She brings some size, too, and she skates really well. I look at her as similar to Megan Dolynchuk, just with her size and skating ability, and willingness to go to those dirty areas. That's one of the things we really like about her. And she has the versatility to play all three forward positions. There were times she was centre, left wing and right wing. She just has good puck skills to make plays whether she's on her strong or off side."
